Description:

The Lurie Cancer Center Basic Research Seminar Series presents:

Fueling T cells and Immunometabolic Checkpoints in Cancer and Inflammation

Jeffrey C. Rathmell, PhD
Cornelius Vanderbilt Professor of Immunobiology
Director, Vanderbilt Center for Immunobiology
Department of Pathology, Microbiology, and Immunology, Associate Director of Molecular Pathology and Immunology PhD Program
Vanderbilt University

Dr. Rathmell studies mechanisms by which extracellular cues influence lymphocyte death and differentiation in efforts to control inflammatory diseases and cancer. Dr. Rathmell's group showed that the metabolism of T cells is highly dynamic and that specific metabolic programs are essential for each functional T cell subset. These fundamental metabolic distinctions may now allow modulation of selective populations of lymphocytes in inflammatory diseases and anti-tumor immunity. With Dr. Rathmell’s long-standing leadership as an educator for various careers in science, a special seminar intended for students and post-docs will follow this lecture in Baldwin from 12pm-12:45pm.

All members of the Northwestern Medicine community are invited to attend.
