Fake clinics, or crisis pregnancy centers (CPCs), are anti-abortion organizations that use online advertising and messaging to impersonate medical facilities and intentionally provide misleading information–with the ultimate goal to confuse and deter pregnant people from getting abortions. CPCs especially target people of color, young people, and low-income people. There are currently 97 CPCs in Illinois and organizations like Reproductive Transparency Now (RTN) aim to raise public awareness of CPCs through peaceful demonstrations and community outreach. This speaker event is aimed at exposing medical and public health students and professionals to the medical misinformation and threat to reproductive justice that CPCs pose to patients and the general public. Food will be provided to those who register.
