Title: Interactions and Antagonism Among the Gut Bacteroidales
Speaker: Laurie Comstock, PhD,
Professor of Microbiology
Duchossois Family Institute
Department of Microbiology
University of Chicago
Topic:
The Comstock lab studies bacterial species of the order Bacteroidales, concentrating on understanding biological processes that allow them to compete in the mammalian gut. The seminar will largely focus on antagonistic molecules of these bacteria that they use to kill competing members, as well as a process that contributes to their protection from these toxins. These studies are contributing to a better understanding of the ecology of this ecosystem and are identifying new antibacterial molecules for translational purposes.
Host: Hank Seifert, PhD, Professsor, Dept. Of Microbiology-Immunolgyy
