The Indigenous Poetry and Periodicals symposium brings scholars to Northwestern to create a space for discussing and sharing scholarship on the relations between Indigenous poetry and their publications or circulation in periodicals. The symposium takes the Ojibwe Muzzeniegun/Literary Voyager and the Johnston family's translations and poetic creation for the magazine as one starting point for the relations between Indigenous poetry and periodicals. What genealogies of Indigenous poetry exist, and what are their relations to periodicals (newspapers, magazines, zines, literary journals, anthologies) - moving from the Johnstons both backward and forward in time?
