The Lurie Cancer Center Basic Research Seminar Series Presents:
Chromosome Structure at Eukaryotic Centromeres
Aaron Straight, PhD
Professor and Chair of Biochemistry
Professor, by courtesy, of Chemical and Systems Biology
Stanford University
The Straight lab focuses on understanding the genetic and epigenetic control of chromosome organization and function. Specifically, the lab studies assembly and function of the centromere and kinetochore, RNA dependent regulation of chromatin epigenetic states, the function of repetitive elements in genomes and the physical organization of chromosomes. The talk will focus on how CENP-A and CENP-N promote specific chromatin higher order structure at the centromere to influence proper chromosome segregation.
