Description:

The main focus of the Zweifel laboratory is directed toward understanding the genetic basis of emotion. We are particularly interested in the limbic system of the brain which is critical for determining where we are, where we have been, what we are doing, what we plan to do, and how all of it makes us feel. We are currently investigating how a small group of neurons located in the ventral midbrain that synthesize and release the neurotransmitter dopamine influence activity patterns within the limbic system to direct behavior.
