The Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Genetics presents:
Danwei Huangfu, PhD
Member and Professor, Developmental Biology Program
Sloan Kettering Institute
Presentation:
"A stem cell approach to human development, from reconstitution to deconstruction using CRISPR screens"
Abstract:
The Huangfu lab interrogates human development and disease mechanisms through combining genome editing tools with stem cell technology. They have led the development of efficient genome editing tools in human pluripotent stem cells (hPSCs), and further implemented these tools to interrogate pancreatic development and diabetes mechanisms through the studies of hPSC-derived pancreatic progenitors and islet-like organoids. They have further spearheaded CRISPR-Cas9 genome-scale knockout screening approach to identify novel genetic regulators of hPSC differentiation, an approach they have extended to the discovery of regulators of DNA methylation.
