Description:

Filmed over the course of five years, AMOR, MUJERES & FLORES is a two-part documentary by Colombian duo Marta Rodriguéz and Jorge Silva exposing the harmful working environment of flower cultivation laborers in the Bogotá savannah. Described by Rodriguez as a “drama about pesticides and the aberrant working conditions of female labor,” the film paints a picture of the floriculture industry in Colombia, the demand for the country’s carnations in first-world markets, and the numerous labor and human rights violations by foreign companies in Colombia looking to supply that demand. Through interviews, voice-over narration, and poetic ruminations, the film presents an intimate portrait of the workers, their desires, and the struggle to form a union, ultimately answering a question posed at the film’s start: “What’s the cost of producing beauty?”

Presented in a new digital restoration with English language subtitles made available by Fundación Cine Documental.
