The Center for Genetic Medicine presents the Scott Lecture Series:
"Genes and Variants That Influence Common Metabolic Diseases"
With Guest Speaker:
Karen L. Mohlke, PhD
Professor and Associate Chair of Genetics
Oliver Smithies Investigator
University of North Carolina
Synopsis: In the past two decades, genome-wide studies have identified thousands of DNA variants associated with risk of type 2 diabetes, obesity and related diseases. Most of these variants are located in noncoding regions of the genome. Integration of genetic variants with genomic data for gene regulation and expression helps identify the variants, genes and mechanisms that lead to disease.
**UPDATE: Please note the time of the lecture has changed and will run from 2:00 - 3:00 p.m. A reception will follow the lecture at 3:00 p.m. in the Ryan Family Atrium (in-person only).
**This seminar is offered as a HYBRID event

About the Series:
This presentation is part of the Scott Lecture Series and is co-sponsored the Driskill Graduate Program in Life Sciences at Northwestern University.
The series was created as an educational platform to appeal to the medical community. Funded under the generous bequest of alum Richard A. Scott, MD, his wife and family established the lecture series in honor of his lifelong interest in research and learning after his passing.
