Northwestern University's Institute for Sexual and Gender Minority Health and Wellbeing is delighted to invite you to the May installment of its "Current Issues in LGBTQ Health" series on July 20th. This event will feature affiliate faculty Diane Chen, Ph.D. The title of her presentation will be, "Examining the Evidence Base for Gender Affirmative Care for Transgender Youth"
Objectives:
1. Introduce the gender affirmative model of care and how it has changed over the last decade
2. Highlight current gaps in research related to pediatric gender health care
3. Share ongoing research from the Trans Youth Care Study – psychosocial outcomes following 2 years of treatment with gender-affirming hormones

About the Speaker:
Diane Chen, PhD, is a pediatric psychologist within the Pritzker Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health and the Behavioral Health Director for the Potocsnak Family Division of Adolescent and Young Adult Medicine at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago. She is also Associate Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences and Pediatrics at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. Dr. Chen is the founding psychologist of Lurie Children’s nationally-recognized Gender & Sex Development Program. Clinically, she provides consultation, assessment, and therapeutic services to transgender, nonbinary, and gender diverse youth and young adults and to children, adolescents, and young adults with intersex variations/differences of sex development. Dr. Chen’s programmatic research focuses broadly focused on psychological functioning, reproductive health and fertility preservation, and medical decision-making among LGBTQIA+ youth.
