Andrea Augenti (University of Bologna) will be presenting "From the Ashes? Transformations of Italian Cities during Late Antiquity and the Early Middle Ages."

Abstract: Ruins and new architecture, empty spaces and densely inhabited blocks, abandonment and teeming life—side by side. Late antique and early medieval cities—uneven places, so far from our idea of a city, so consistent with an age of profound transformation. This talk treats these subjects in the light of the most recent discoveries in Italian archaeology.
