Please join the Department of German on Friday, May 5 at 4:30pm in University Hall 101 for "Translating Marx's Captial in the 21st Century" — a guest lecture with Professor Paul Reitter (Ohio State University).
It’s been nearly fifty years since the most recent English translation of Capital appeared. How does the new English translation, which will be published in 2024, differ from the existing ones—in terms of its general strategy and its way of dealing with specific textual challenges? How have present-day discussions of Marx encouraged certain approaches to translating his work? This talk will offer reflections on these and other questions having to do with the forthcoming re-translation of Capital.
