On May 18, at 5pm, join us for the second part of the series "Digital Curation in an Analog world: “Augmented Curiosities": Virtual Play in African Pasts and Futures" by Craig Stevens (Graduate Student Curator, Department of Anthropology. Northwestern University). Craig will discuss his vision and work on the exhibit currently featured at the Herskovits Library of African Studies.
Augmented Curiosities seeks to engage our technological entanglements through the emerging, immersive and experiential visualization techniques of Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) while critiquing the colonial dynamics of the “cabinets of curiosity” which significantly influenced Western museum practices. The presentation will be facilitated by Antawan Byrd (College Fellow, Department of Art History, Northwestern University).
Check out the library exhibit: "Augmented Curiosities: Virtual Play in African Pasts and Futures", curated by Craig Stevens. See the detailed Research Guide for more about this augmented reality/virtual reality exhibit featuring items from various Herskovits Library of African Studies collections, including curator live demos and soon-to-be-announced programming.
