Northwestern University is excited to provide an additional opportunity for you to connect with industry.
This event is hosted and coordinated in partnership between Women in Computing groups and Computer Science inclusion programs across Big 10 universities to connect students engaged in these organizations with employers nationally. While the Grace Hopper Conference is a large-scale event that serves as a platform to connect and engage with employers on career opportunities, this serves as a smaller-scale path to effectively connect with fellow Big 10 students to top employers, university recruiters, and program managers.
Where is the fair? The fair is held virtually from within Handshake. Firefox or Chrome as your browser.
Who can attend? The event is open to all students at Northwestern University, The University of Wisconsin-Madison, University of Minnesota, Michigan State University, Indiana University, University of Iowa, University of Illinois, University of Illinois-Chicago, University of Maryland, University of Nebraska, and Ohio State University.
How do I participate in the event? Register to attend the fair on Handshake, and then sign up for 1:1 and group sessions with the employers you'd like to meet with. On the day of the fair, simply log into Handshake, navigate to the fair page, and click on the My Sessions tab to start your meetings. Make sure you are using Google Chrome. Check out Handshakes guide to learn about finding companies, signing up and system requirements.
How can I prepare? Research the companies. Know what kinds of opportunities they offer, research news related to them, and review their website. Prepare questions for the company and review your qualifications so that you are prepared to talk about past experiences and how they would relate to the duties you'd perform in the job.
Virtual Dress Code: Even though this is a virtual event, it is appropriate to be dressed “up” for the event. A suit and tie are definitely too much, but a polo shirt, sweater, blouse, etc. would be appropriate.
Registration for this event will open to students on September 18, 2023
