Description:

Roasting your own coffee beans is an accessible way to introduce you to a wide range of flavors unavailable from commercially produced coffee. Slowing down the production and consumption of one of the world’s most popular beverages offers an opportunity to meditate on labor, history and place.

Josh Ippel (Art Theory and Practice) took up roasting his own coffee during the pandemic and will share what he has learned. Attendees will get to grind their own beans and sample different roasts and preparations. Josh will also speak on his Dutch heritage and the role of The Netherlands in early coffee trade and production, which may also touch on more sobering topics of colonialism and slavery.

Farm to Fable is a regular event series hosted by the Weinberg Staff Advisory Board (WSAB) as part of their Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Accessibility (DEIA) initiatives. To volunteer to share your own recipe and story, please sign up here
