James Giles, Spencer Myer, and Logan Skelton, piano
Enjoy an evening of George Gershwin favorites arranged for two pianos, performed by Bienen piano professor James Giles and special guests Spencer Myer and Logan Skelton. James Giles regularly performs throughout North America, Europe, and Asia. This season, he gives recitals in Italy and Portugal, and serves on the jury of the 2024 Gina Bachauer International Piano Competition. A sought-after pianist, teacher, and composer, Logan Skelton has made a substantial contribution to the University of Michigan’s forthcoming publication of the Gershwin Critical Edition. Spencer Myer has appeared as soloist with the Cleveland Orchestra and the Cape Town and Johannesburg Philharmonics, and his chamber music collaborations have included cellists Lynn Harrell and Ralph Kirshbaum, clarinetist David Shifrin, and soprano Nicole Cabell. Giles, Myer, and Skelton’s program features Percy Grainger’s Fantasy on Porgy and Bess, as well as Logan Skelton’s arrangements of An American in Paris, “Fascinating Rhythm,” “Nice Work If You Can Get It,” “Strike Up the Band,” “I’ve Got a Crush on You,” and many more Gershwin hits.
