Speakers:

Jeremy D. Protas is a partner in the Electrical Engineering & Computer Science practice group at Marshall Gerstein. Jeremy counsels clients on all types of patent-related matters, while focusing on securing patents in diverse technologies including optics, high-energy x-ray beamlines, undulators, nanomaterials, microscopy, wireless telephony, process control, and medical devices. His experience developing transmitters for NASA’s Deep Space Network at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory and designing and testing mobile telephony infrastructure at Motorola Inc., contributes to his keen understanding of the interface between intellectual property law and engineering environments in both public and private sectors.

Heather R. Kissling is a partner in Marshall Gerstein’s Biotechnology & Life Sciences practice group. Heather draws from over 20 years of experience securing biotechnology patents to develop worldwide filing and prosecution strategies that further her clients’ business objectives. She actively collaborates with bench scientists, business development personnel, and in-house counsel to maximize protection of biotechnology innovations in a broad range of technologies, including antibody and protein technology, gene therapy, cell therapies and related technologies, and cleantech. Heather is a graduate of the Northwestern University M.S. in Biotechnology program, and started her career as a patent agent before receiving her J.D. from Chicago-Kent College of Law.
