Title: Host Transcription Elongation Factors Limit Kaposi’s Sarcoma-associated Herpesvirus Replication
Speaker: Nicholas Conrad, PhD, Professor, UT Southwestern Medical Center
Topic:
Like all herpesviruses, the Kaposi’s sarcoma-associated herpesvirus (KSHV) life cycle includes latent and lytic stages. Reactivation of virus from latency requires a dramatic change in host and viral gene expression. In our efforts to identify host nuclear RNA quality control factors that regulate viral lytic gene expression, we serendipitously found that a host transcription elongation factor called PNUTS serves as a barrier to viral gene expression. This seminar will describe our current state of understanding of the PNUTS mechanism, and its importance to viral replication.
Host: Eva Gottwein, PhD, Dept. of Microbiology-Immunology
