Title: Gravitational Wave Probes of Parity Violation
Abstract:
In this talk I will discuss the effects of parity violation in the gravitational sector on the propagation of gravitational waves. I will begin by introducing a theory-agnostic parameterization to characterize both amplitude and velocity birefringence in gravitational wave propagation as a result of parity violation and show how such a parameterization maps to various theories and a parameterized post-Einsteinian waveform. Then, I will discuss parity violating effects on gravitational wave observables. In particular, I will show how both the stochastic gravitational wave background and multi-messenger gravitational wave-electromagnetic coincident events can be used to place constraints on gravitational parity violation.
