This talk will introduce Quantum Sensing and its applications to fundamental physics. In particular, it will focus on qubits, the building blocks of quantum computers as a possible sensing tool to harness single quanta of energy not accessible through traditional detectors alone. We will give a general overview of the global state of the quantum sensing program and discuss some of the activities taking place locally in the Chicagoland area with a particular focus on dark matter detector development.
