Cultivating Peer Support through Trauma-Informed and Social Justice Pedagogies
The Searle Center is hosting an online session on Thursday, February 1st at 10-11am (CT).
Do you notice current events or students’ personal experiences are impacting participation in the classroom, but are not sure how to address it? Are your students feeling anxious or afraid to take risks, participate, or make mistakes in class? If so, join us for this one-hour session to engage in discussion and activities to better understand social and emotional learning to create more positive, engaging classrooms and collaborations.
Participants will draw upon the tenets of trauma-informed and social justice pedagogies to see how awareness of positionality, brave spaces, and peer support cultivate inclusive and affirming classrooms. Through case studies and discussion, participants will begin to develop strategies to facilitate and support communities of care amongst learners.
