Description:

"Neurovascular coupling and functional MRI"

ABSTRACT:

Neurovascular coupling, which encompasses the intricate neuronal control of vasomotion, constitutes a fundamental aspect of understanding the physiology of functional MRI (fMRI). It is crucial to note that the mechanisms underpinning this phenomenon can vary significantly based on the brain's state and the type of stimulation it experiences. In this presentation, we embark on a comprehensive exploration of fMRI within the context of neurovascular coupling. Our insights are derived from an extensive dataset that encompasses various modalities, including fMRI, alongside recordings of single neurons, local field potentials, laser Doppler flowmetry, and brain tissue oxygen measurements.

BIO:

Daniil Aksenov is the Director of the Center for Basic MR Research at NorthShore University HealthSystem. He holds an MD, PhD in Neurology, and an MS in Computer Science. His primary interests encompass the physiology of brain tissue oxygen, functional MRI, and the impact of general anesthesia on brain function.
