Serena Witzke Visiting Lecture: What can we see through Roman Comedy? Exploring non-dominant narratives in Plautus and Terence

Friday, May 24, 2024 | 12:00 PM - 2:00 PM CT

The extant literature of ancient Rome has a representation problem. How can we understand the experiences of women, non-citizens, freedpersons, and the enslaved when most of our sources are written by elite, citizen men? Using epistemic theory, we can crack open the gaps and explore the ventriloquized lives of the Other in comedy.
