DESCRIPTION:Have you heard a Beethoven symphony and felt like you didn't understand what you were listening to? This course teaches students how to appreciate classical music from a different lens. The symphonic form\, being a major artistic vessel for composers\, will be our main point of focus\, but we will also cover other types of instrumental music\, such as overtures\, concertos\, and tone poems. We will cover foundational aspects of music listening including: basic harmony\, orchestration\, form and structure\, and genre; and analyze not only different performances of pieces\, but also scores from a listener's perspective.
