Title: Navigating the Cosmos: Lessons Learned for a career in Astrophysics, Planetary Science, and Aerospace Industries

Abstract:

Successfully launching a career in aerospace presents a uniquely rewarding challenge.
Drawing from a decade of experiences across the space industry, Dan shares insights and
practical advice for aspiring professionals, highlighting pivotal moments, crises, and
triumphs encountered in designing, building, and operating spacecraft within collaborative,
diverse teams. There are so many exciting opportunities at research institutions,
commercial companies, and fledgling startups; but how do you get started, and how do you
decide which one is the best fit for you? This talk will offer valuable guidance for launching your own journey into the cosmos.

About the Presenter:

Dan Abramov is a spaceflight systems engineer based in Seattle at Blue Origin. Dan’s
previous mission portfolio includes the Orbital Sciences Antares, SpaceX Falcon/Starship
launch vehicle programs, and the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory Europa Clipper
mission. Dan also worked at the Space Telescope Science Institute as a student intern,
when the James Webb Space Telescope was first being built. He is passionate about space
exploration and particularly enjoys helping with spaceflight education and outreach for the
public. Dan holds a bachelor of arts degree in physics and astronomy from Northwestern
University (2013), and a master’s degree in engineering from the University of Michigan
(2016). While at Northwestern, Dan was co-founder of the NUSTARS engineering
organization, which continues to provide students with hands-on opportunities to compete
in university-level NASA challenges.
