In this workshop, we will examine Northwestern’s set textbooks for Intro and Intermediate Latin: whose voices are promoted? what perspectives are absent? for whom were these texts written? Together we will identify gaps, misrepresentations, and a variety of -isms and brainstorm ways to address deficits in existing curricula. Participants are invited to read Witzke (2022) “Reading From the Outside: Teaching Violence and Oppression in Our Texts” in Classical Outlook 97.1 in preparation for the workshop.
Refreshments provided. Please RSVP to classics@northwestern.edu.
