Our world is a bubbling frenzy of information, misinformation, and disinformation. Scientific thinking under constant assault in the public marketplace, where lies can overpower truth. Research funding is unreliable, despite the tremendous contributions of science to the economic well-being of humanity. Something must be done.
What is the answer? First and foremost, science must make itself heard, and the way to do that is with effective and disciplined science communication. In this colloquium, I will briefly discuss why effective science communication is important to all scientists; however, the majority of the presentation will explore some of the various ways in which audience members might make their voices heard.
