You're invited to join us for a Buffett Conversation with Anne-Marie Slaughter, CEO of the think and action tank New America and former Director of Policy Planning in the U.S. State Department. In a wide-ranging discussion moderated by Karen J. Alter, Norman Dwight Harris Professor of International Relations at Northwestern’s Weinberg College of Arts & Sciences, Slaughter will examine how individuals and countries like the United States promote and undermine international law as a tool to promote human rights, peace and prosperity. She will also share perspectives on what countries, political leaders, thought leaders and individuals can do to promote the vision of peace and justice that international law suggests and promises.

About Anne-Marie Slaughter

Anne-Marie Slaughter is the CEO of the think and action tank New America. Previously, she was the J. Sinclair Armstrong Professor of International, Foreign & Comparative Law at Harvard Law School and served as President of the American Society of International Law. From 2002 to 2009, she was Bert G. Kerstetter ‘66 University Professor of Politics & International Affairs and Dean of the School of Public & International Affairs at Princeton University. In 2009, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton appointed her as the first woman Director of Policy Planning in the U.S. State Department. The author or editor of nine books, she is a contributing editor to the Financial Times and a regular columnist for Project Syndicate.
