On Tuesday, October 8th, we will be celebrating Hispanic and Latinx Heritage Month in all of our Dining Halls during dinner. Our team will feature recipes inspired by The Latin American Cookbook by global star chef Virgilio Martinez. Visit any dining hall to scan to win a copy where you can discover traditional and popular recipes for home cooks from Argentina, Belize, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Guyana, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Suriname, Uruguay, and Venezuela, with dishes ranging from iconic - Empanadas, Tamales, Arepas, Tortillas, Quesadillas, and Tacos - to lesser-known specialties - Chilean Disco Fries, Nicaraguan Squash Stew, and Ecuadorian Easter Soup.
Join us at Allison Dining Hall for treats from local Mekato’s Colombian Bakery. DJ Corey Bless will be playing an eclectic mix of music from all across Latin America. We'll top off the evening with two very special performances from AfriCaribe and Mariachi Northwestern. AfriCaribe is a non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation, research, promotion, and development of Puerto Rican and Caribbean cultures through music, dance, theater, and other artistic media. Mariachi Northwestern is a student group that strives to expose our surrounding communities to Mariachi music and culture. You won't want to miss this cultural celebration!
