Abstract:
There are fewer exciting places to start a career than a Software Engineer in Big Tech today. In this talk, I plan to share my journey from an Interdisciplinary PhD student in CIERA to a Software Engineer @ Google (in applied ML/AI). I will dive deeper into various roles in the tech industry, a day in the life of a software engineer, how to decide if it's the right fit for you, life in academia vs industry, and how to make the pivot to software engineering including practical tips on how to land a job!
