Active learning is an instructional methodology that engages students in activities that take them past listening and note-taking and moves them toward developing skills and higher-order thinking. Activities might include discussion, writing, reading, and other hands-on approaches that allow them to build new knowledge and understanding.
This workshop is tailored specifically to exploring active learning in large lecture halls with fixed seating. What techniques and technologies work best in these spaces with large classes?
During this hands-on session, participants will:
Learn the cognitive science behind active learning
Explore classroom technologies that support active learning
Develop a plan for how to implement active learning in their courses
