Description:

Join GLO and Professor Licheng GU to learn more about the Wanxiang Fellows: Modern China and Emerging Technologies for summer 2025.

This summer fellowship program, sponsored by Wanxiang America, GLO, and ISEN, allows students to study modern Chinese history and renewable energy in the United States and China while gaining exposure to Chinese language and culture.

Wanxiang fellows begin their summer experience abroad with two weeks of coursework at Peking University in Beijing and program excursions to historic sites. The course will explore connections between China’s historical, political, and cultural contexts, as well as its energy sector. Towards the end of the first two weeks, the Northwestern group will be joined by students and faculty from Wanxiang Polytechnic for a 3-day Beijing seminar after which they will travel as a full group to Hangzhou. Students then participate in a two-week intensive program at Hangzhou Wanxiang Polytechnic, where they explore issues of energy technology and application through lectures by Wanxiang researchers and practitioners, as well as site visits. Students develop group projects on energy and sustainability topics of their choice and present these upon return to Northwestern in fall quarter.

The program is 4 weeks and runs from mid-June to mid-July.

Program Fee: $1,000
