Topic: NOAA’s Engagement in Marine Carbon Dioxide Removal
Abstract: Marine carbon dioxide removal is an emerging research area focused on accelerating natural processes to draw down atmospheric carbon dioxide into the ocean on timescales relevant to the climate. This presentation will describe the policy relevance of carbon removal, as well as provide an overview of the various marine carbon removal approaches, NOAA's role in the space, and the nexus with larger United States Government initiatives in this context.
Bio: Dr. Kitch heads up carbon dioxide research and strategic efforts in NOAA’s Ocean Acidification program, which includes managing the marine carbon dioxide removal research portfolio and developing new key partnerships to support the development research and products to enable the marine carbon dioxide removal ecosystem. She holds a Ph.D. in Geological and Earth Sciences/Geosciences from Northwestern University.
