Learn about this new Northwestern study abroad program for Fall 2025, Climate and Health in South Africa!
Study the dramatic effects of a rapidly changing climate on ecological and human health in one of the most vulnerable and beautiful places on Earth: the Western Cape of South Africa. Explore the impacts of the climate emergency on resource availability, social equity, and national/international policy in Africa. Participate in field-based and interdisciplinary project-based learning in addition to attending lectures from experts on pressing environmental issues facing South African urban, rural, and village communities.
The program is open to juniors and seniors with scientific literacy and strong interest in the program theme. Majors could include environmental engineering or other engineering majors, environmental science, biology, or chemistry - but all upper-level students with enough science/technical background to meaningfully contribute to a real-world environmental design project are encouraged to apply.
Hear from program director, Northwestern Professor Kim Gray, and the Global Learning Office to find out more about program courses, projects, housing, and the application process. If you can't attend during the scheduled time, register to have the recorded session shared with you.
