Description:

Join MESA Global Academy and KMTS for a talk with Dr. Begum Burak titled "ONLINE CENSORSHIP AS A TOOL OF «FAILED GOVERNMENTALITY» IN TURKEY" via Zoom!

In this presentation, I employ Foucault's concept of governmentality to examine how online censorship functions as a tool of 'failed governmentality' in Turkey.  I argue that as Turkey increasingly deviates from democratic principles, it becomes more susceptible to this form of governance failure. When democratic governance fails, online censorship becomes a tool for authoritarian governments to control information, suppress dissent, and maintain power.
