Indigenous Land & Water Based Education: Cultivating Just and Sustainable Futures
New models of education are a central need and possibility in supporting societal adaptions given a changing climate in the coming decades. This talk will first articulate some of the key needs of educational transformation in relation and the ways in which which Indigenous peoples and our territories intersect with this issues globally. Then the talk will present key dimensions of Indigenous and decolonial education that help to create equitable and just learning environments. The talk will highlight two specific projects, one called Learning in Places and the other called Indigenous STEAM, that are utilized with pre-school through high school learners across 7 states and in more than 55 districts, that have been co-designed with educators, disciplinary experts, artists, youth, families, and communities.
