Please join us for Physics Horizons 🍕: a departmental special seminar in Tech F160, Thursday, February 27, 6:00 pm.
Prof. Jerry Gabrielse will present his research "Probing Deep Mysteries of the Universe on a Tabletop" in a special presentation for undergraduates, but the entire community is welcome!
The Standard Model of Particle Physics is able to make incredibly precise predictions -- even though it is not consistent with basic features of our universe. Most of the matter and energy in the universe are unknown, In tabletop scale experiments, we probe the deep mysteries of the universe using one suspended electron or positron and also vast numbers of polar molecules. We use quantum tricks, incredible temperature ranges and extreme technology to test our description of physical reality with unprecedented sensitivity and precision.
