Description:

Organic neuromorphic electronics

Abstract: Organic neuromorphic electronics harnesses ionic and electrochemical processes to emulate core features of synaptic adaptation and neural computation in a bio-realistic and highly efficient manner. In this talk, we will explore how organic and iontronic materials enable the design of neuromorphic devices and circuits that can sense, process, and respond in real time, forming the foundation for both intelligent systems and efficient neuromorphic biointerfaces.

Bio: Paschalis Gkoupidenis is an Associate Professor at NC State University and former Independent Group Leader at the Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research. His research sits at the intersection of materials science, electronics, and neuroscience, with a focus on organic neuromorphic devices and circuits for bioelectronics and robotics. He pioneered the development of organic electrochemical synapses and neuromorphic circuits that enabled autonomous learning in robotics, introduced neuromorphic architectures based on electrolytes, and developed organic artificial spiking neurons capable of biorealistic communication with living tissue. Gkoupidenis has authored over 60 peer-reviewed publications, including several in Nature family journals. His research has been recognized and featured in Scientific American, Yale Scientific, and Max Planck Magazine.
