SUMMARY:A Conversation with Thomas Meinecke
UID:641455@northwestern.edu
TZID:America/Chicago
DESCRIPTION:Since 2008\, the DJ\, writer\, and musician Meinecke hosts a series of conversations under the title Plattenspieler (record player) at the Hebbel am Ufer (HAU) theater in Berlin. He invites various guests to join him on stage for conversations about musicians\, producers\, DJs\, artists and writers\, which are based on a selection of music chosen by Meinecke and his guest. At Northwestern\, Thomas Meinecke will read passages from his literary work (on various topics from Jazz and German Pop music to philosophy\, gender studies\, and modern art) and – in conversation with Professor Jörg Kreienbrock – recreate a record player performance. Thomas Meinecke is the founder of the literary magazine Mode & Verzweiflung [Fashion and Despair] and the band Freiwillige Selbstkontrolle [Voluntary Self-Control]. Since the mid-1990s\, his literary interests have emerged by combining the musical technique of sampling with creative writing. His novels include: Holz; The Church of John F. Kennedy; Tomboy; Hellblau; Musik; Jungfrau; Lookalikes; Selbst; and most recently Odenwald.
