SUMMARY:Undergraduates: Meet a Key Architect of US Defense Policy for Ukraine\, Russia\, & Eurasia
UID:642027@northwestern.edu
TZID:America/Chicago
DESCRIPTION:How are U.S. policy decisions about Ukraine and Russia actually made? What does a career path to these policy decision-making tables actually look like? Join us for a students-only conversation with Buffett Distinguished Visiting Practitioner and Northwestern University alumna Laura K. Cooper\, Former Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Russia\, Ukraine\, and Eurasia and a career member of the Senior Executive Service. She was a key architect of U.S. policy concerning Russia\, Ukraine\, and Eurasia (Belarus\, the Caucasus\, Central Asia\, and Moldova). This small-group roundtable event will feature discussion over refreshments. The discussion will be led by Andreea Micu\, the Roberta Buffett Institute's Assistant Director for Global Collaboration and Lecturer in the Roberta Buffett International Studies Program. Students may ask their own questions at any point in the discussion\, though no preparation is required. Come to build your network\, meet fellow students with similar interests in global affairs\, and enjoy snacks and beverages. This event is co-sponsored by the International Studies Society and the World Affairs Group\, and is open to all students across campus. The next day at lunchtime\, students are also invited to join us for a public Buffett Conversation with Ms. Cooper on Russia's war in Ukraine moderated by Ian C. Kelly\, Ambassador (ret.) in Residence at Northwestern University. Lunch will be provided. Please note that 720 University Place is not an ADA-accessible space. Increasing physical access to buildings and facilities is a goal of the University\, but not all buildings and venues have been updated at this time.\n\nRegister: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/interested-in-government-public-service-and-us-foreign-policy-tickets-1988530612592?aff=oddtdtcreator
