In the late nineteenth and early twentieth century\, local ingenuity and expertise worked with a range of techniques to create new objects of desire for the global antiquities market. Craft skills in the Middle East were redirected towards a new market generated by the colonial project’s fanatical harvesting of artefacts: the fabrication\, forgery\, and fictionalization of antiquities."
