DESCRIPTION:The Music of McCoy Tyner and John Coltrane  Derrick Gardner and Kevin Fort\, conductors    Pianist\, composer\, and NEA Jazz Master McCoy Tyner gained widespread recognition for his work with the John Coltrane Quartet. He later embarked on a successful solo career\, recording a series of post-bop albums on the Blue Note Label\, earning two Grammy nominations for his album Sahara on the Milestone Records label\, and ultimately winning five Grammy Awards for his late-career recordings. Among the most influential and acclaimed jazz artists of the 20th century\, saxophonist\, bandleader\, and composer John Coltrane began his career with bebop and hard bop\, later becoming a pioneer in modal and free jazz. He collaborated with Miles Davis and Thelonious Monk\, and received critical acclaim for his albums Giant Steps and A Love Supreme.
