Upon entry\, you will see a staircase to your left. Take the stairs down\, turn right and follow the signs for RISE Colloquium toward room #1515. RSVP HERE! Speaker: Dr. Bryan McKinley Jones Brayboy Indigenous Presence: Remembering the Future Abstract This talk is about the ways that the presence of Indigenous peoples has been erased in the process of removing (or making them absent) them from lands\, from memories\, and from consciousness. Dr. Brayboy argues that our full presence is necessary for the future and that our essence abounds in ways many of us may not always know.   Bio Bryan McKinley Jones Brayboy (Lumbee) is dean of Northwestern University’s School of Education and Social Policy and the Carlos Montezuma Professor of Education and Social Policy. A member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and National Academy of Education as well as a fellow of the American Educational Research Association\, Brayboy’s research focuses on intersecting knowledge systems that illuminate the ways that institutional structures simultaneously hinder and enable the success of underserved students\, staff\, and faculty. His research also explores the ways that culture and cultural practices mediate and support Indigenous student learning\, community self-determination\, and tribal nation building. _______________________________________________________________ A flyer is linked for your reference. Please feel free to share this invitation with colleagues\, students and community members who may be interested.
