DESCRIPTION:Please join the American Politics Workshop as they host Dr. Daniel B. Markovits\, Postdoctoral Fellow at the Litowitz Center for Enlightened Disagreement at Northwestern University. Session title and description forthcoming.   Daniel B. Markovits is a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Litowitz Center for Enlightened Disagreement at Northwestern University. Starting Fall 2027\, he will join the Department of Government at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) as an Assistant Professor. Markovits' research examines how strategic considerations shape American partisans’ responses to democratic backsliding. His dissertation analyzes when voters and partisan activists confronted with threats from opponents choose compromise rather than escalation. Markovits also studies crossover voting in primary elections\, depolarization initiatives\, and the role of norms in structuring intra-party competition—from presidential primaries to conflicts over free speech. More broadly\, Markovits investigates how the heightened stakes of contemporary politics generate complex strategic behavior among the American public.
