SUMMARY:Armenia and Georgia— War-Time Nations in Transition.
UID:647061@northwestern.edu
TZID:America/Chicago
DESCRIPTION:Wars in Ukraine and Nagorno Karabakh have prompted the two nations in the Caucasus region to reorient their foreign policies. In Armenia’s case\, Russia’s refusal to intervene against Azerbaijani aggression in Nagorno Karabakh caused Yerevan to sever many of its historical ties with Moscow and seek closer relations with the West. The Georgian government\, with 20% of the country already under Russian occupation\, responded to the full-scale invasion of Ukraine by accommodating Russia and rejecting ties with the West\, in an attempt to entrench its rule and to forestall further Russian aggression. Please join us for a panel discussion of these developments with Anton Vatcharadze of the University of Georgia(Tbilisi\, Georgia) and Anna Ohanyan\, Professor of Political Science\, Stonehill College. The discussion will be moderated by Ian Kelly\, Ambassador (ret.) in Residence\, Northwestern University. Lunch will be served. This is a hybrid event and can be attended online.  Please register for the meeting link.   \n\nRegister: https://northwestern.zoom.us/meeting/register/CKNEU4GfRrqvC4FOftZZCA
