SUMMARY:Black Anarchism & Abolition: Co-making Revolutionary Archives Across the Wall
UID:647496@northwestern.edu
TZID:America/Chicago
DESCRIPTION:Talk featuring Rachel McMillian and Sabina Vaught and co-sponsored with Northwestern's Department of Black Studies. Refreshments will be served.   Black anarchism—an intellectual\, political movement for Black liberation\, self-determination\, and autonomy—is a cardinal knowledge tradition in the pluriversal thought worlds that make up meaningful contemporary life. In the US context\, its current formation was forged in part among Black radicals in the prisons of the 1960s and 70s and has deep\, abiding internationalist roots. Black anarchism continues to be shaped and deepened across carceral contexts and provides often unrecognized grounding for movements such as abolition. As abolition is struggled over\, refined\, and contested in the field of Education\, we see the necessity of building deeper wells of study and scholarship\, including inaugurating dialogues within Black anarchism. This informal talk covers two interrelated projects: a special issue and a living archive project supported by a grant from the Freedom and Justice Institute.
