Title: Collective modes in non-uniform Superconductors
Speaker: Professor Anton Vorontsov, Montana State University
Abstract: In this talk I will review the concept of broken symmetry in superconductors ; describe the waves of superconductivi ty and how we can use them to test for new condensate phases with non-uniform order parameter. Using this as an example, I will attempt to highlight some connections between physics of superfluid condensates and plasma-like features of metals, light propagation in matter, gravity and Higgs mechanism, including some medieval references by the end.
