An increasing number of research teams and projects are engaging relevant community representatives, patients, and other stakeholders on advisory boards (ABs) to provide ongoing input and feedback on a research project’s design, conduct, and dissemination. This type of structured engagement may be required for some funding proposals for patient centered outcomes research (PCOR) and community-engaged research.
This Center for Community Health workshop is designed to help research faculty and academic staff that are currently or interested in forming and supporting an advisory board.
Experienced faculty and community partners will share their experiences and lessons learned. Presenters include:
- Dr. Shyam Prabhakaran, Associate Professor in Neurology, Northwestern's Feinberg School of Medicine
- Marcus Murray, Executive Director, Project Brotherhood
- Yaa Simpson, Community Epidemiologist & Bioethicist, The Association of Clinical Trials Services (TACTS)
The session will cover how to:
- identify and invite potential AB members,
- prepare and run AB meetings,
- build AB member capacity and engagement, etc.

FYI CCH is also hosting a webinar on March 25 directed at community representatives and will provide guidance on serving on community advisory boards. Details here: http://planitpurple.northwestern.edu/event/494050
