“Effect of Chronic Illness Complexity on Receipt of Evidence-Based Depression Care”
The rate of guideline concordance with antidepressant treatment among veterans with new episodes of depression is low. The problem may be even more pronounced for depression patients with coexisting, multiple chronic conditions (MCC). In this seminar we will examine, for persons with new episodes of depression, the effect of various groups of chronic diseases (clusters of MCC) on the likelihood of receipt of evidence-based depression treatment.

“Blood Pressure in Older Adults - Moving Beyond Age”
"The majority of older persons have high blood pressure, but optimal levels for blood pressure control remain controversial. Older adults are a diverse population, and a mix of those aging successfully, and those with frailty and in poor health. This seminar will present evidence demonstrating the importance of considering measures of health status, beyond age, in the debate on optimal blood pressure in older adults."

"Biomedical Text Mining: Introduction and Examples”
Text mining involves information extraction, defined as the discovery by computer of new and previously unfound information by automatically extracting information from different written resources. Information extraction primarily constitutes concept extraction (also known as named entity recognition) and relation extraction (also known as association extraction). Natural Language Processing (NLP) is the art of text mining. NLP when dealing with written text operates at level of words, grammar, meaning, context, and document. In this presentation, we will discuss some of the basics of text mining and also go through few examples in biomedical domain.
