Description:

"Exploring the mechanisms of the cardiovascular health effects of air pollution"

Air pollution is known to cause cardiovascular disease (CVD), however, the exact mechanisms by which this occurs remain unclear. Using data from the Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis and its ancillary studies, I will provide evidence related to two hypothesized pathways linking air pollution to CVD, inflammation and activation of the sympathetic nervous system.

Cardiovascular Epidemiology Seminar Series

"Blood Pressure Variability Including Nocturnal Blood Pressure"

This presentation will review how nocturnal blood pressure (BP) influences our
cardiovascular system, including the brain. Long-term BP variability, particularly in younger adults, as a novel cardiovascular risk factor (especially for brain) is another topic in this presentation. Lastly, for maintaining healthy cardiovascular system (the heart, the blood vessel, and the brain), how these findings can be implemented into daily clinical
practice will also be discussed.
